It is popularly known in Sagunto by “The Descent”, carved in 1950 by D.Vicente Pallardó Latorre, of Torrente town from Valencia.

The “madero” or cross, agony of the Lord; as well as the figures of the Virgin and St John, who are made of wood, but of a smaller size than the natural one. The three figures that are suspended in the air, Jesus Christ, Nicodemus and Arimathea are made of cardborad and “sticks”, if made in wood the weight would not have been able to sustain.

The sculptor said that when he was putting the finishing touches to the face of the Virgin, he was so happy and pleased with how well it had been, that the tears flooded his eyes.

Fifty years after Mr. Pallardó came to this Chapel of the Blood, entered and saw his “Virgin”, excited, asked for a ladder to be able to see and talk his masterpiece and see her again.
