From time immemorial, at the foot of the steps of the Chapel, the traditional auction of the images, the drum and the uniform of the “capità dels saions” are held at five in the afternoon.
It is an almost mythical, endearing ritual; “… euros donen per portar la Soletat, a la una …” (“…euros offer to take Soledad, at one …”). In our language, that of the Valencians, the mayorales accompanying the clavario of the year, with a strong, resounding voice, are auctioning each of the images that take part in the “provessó de les vestes”.
The auction stage is the staircase of the Chapel, built in 1601, and that small urban space that more than a street soon looks like a small square, called “Sangre Nueva”.
The auction ends when the image of the “Soledad”, enters in the Chapel Square. That’s when Clavario closes the auction.
