As every Monday of Holy Week, Sagunt delves once more into the commemoration of the Passion and Death of Our Jesus Christ. Monday of Holy Week commemorates the Painful Encounter between Jesus, represented by the image of “Nazareno”, and his Mother, represented at the image of the “Soledad”. The image of the “Nazareno” leaves from the Chapel of the Blood at 8 in the afternoon and marches through the eastern part of the city of Sagunt, crossing the Mayor Square, Mayor Street, Valencia Street, going up the Camino Real street until reaching the Mayor Square. This walk is accompanied by the Mayoralía of the Year. On the other hand, the “Soledad” leaves the same Chapel a little later, goes west, through the Mayor Square, Capitçn Pallarés Street, Teruel Street, District Square, Campoamor Street, Pí Square, José Lerma Street and Caballeros Street, until you reach the Church of Santa María where you expect your son’s arrival. In this part of the procession goes the Mayoralía of the Outgoing Year.

The “Nazareno” arrives at the Mayor Square, “Soledad” is waiting for him and the true act of devotion begins. Several musical pieces are interpreted while “Soledad” and “Nazareno”, always on the shoulders of their bearers, swing on a magical night. The fervor of the people is mixed; it seems as if the force necessary to be able to carry the weight of an entire tradition on the back of the entire town, which is waiting for “Soledad” and the “Nazareno”e to be face to face in the most painful meeting in history. The silence of the people is deafening, everyone respects the silence, and is only cut off by the sound of the Bugles and the Drums, and a cry of “Puríssima Sang de Jesucrist” when the musical pieces finish and all the brothers, next to the images, they begin to climb Castillo Street until they reach the Chapel of the Blood, and thus end the first of the emblematic processions of Holy Week Saguntina.
